WHAT IS “JOY OF EUROPE”?
“Joy of Europe” is the largest and oldest international manifestation of children’s creativity, established back in 1969, on the occasion of the World Children’s Day. In the beginning of the month of October Belgrade welcomes children from many countries of Europe – they dance, sing, act, and above all else they make friends and have a good time. There almost isn’t a single European country whose children, in these over 40 years of our Manifestation, have not been guests of the “Joy of Europe”.

WHEN DOES JOY OF EUROPE TAKE PLACE?
Belgrade becomes the children’s capital of Europe every year, in the period October 1st to 5th.

WHO IS THE ORGANIZER OF THE MANIFESTATION?
Founder and patron of the International gathering of children of Europe is the City Administration of the City of Belgrade, and the executive producer is the Children’s Culture Center Belgrade.
The City Administration appoints the Board of the “Joy of Europe”, which makes all decisions on the basic program entities of the manifestation, selection of groups, as well as side programs.

WHO IS ENTITLED TO TAKE PART IN THE “JOY OF EUROPE” MANIFESTATION?
The right of participation is given to all performing arts schools, culture centers, studios, clubs, associations, and above all groups who made some noted results in national and international competitions, festivals, contests, etc.

WHICH AREAS OF STAGE CREATIVITY ARE INCLUDED IN THE COMPETITION?
Stage performance to be presented by the participants can be:
dance (classic, contemporary or traditional dance, jazz dance, dance show...)
music (classical music, folklore music, modern music – children, jazz, rock...)
drama (drama miniature, dramolet, commedia dell'arte, nonverbal theater, experimental theater, musical...)

HOW OLD ARE THE COMPETITION PARTICIPANTS?
Minimal age is 7, and the eldest participants cannot be over 14.
 
HOW MANY MEMBERS CAN THERE BE IN ONE GROUP?
Each group from the guest country can comprise up to 20 children and 3 adult companions - leaders.

WHAT ARE THE BASIC PROGRAM ENTITIES OF THE MANIFESTATION?
CARNIVAL – a lively parade of costumed participants of the manifestation through the city’s downtown;
FRIENDSHIP MEETINGS – several concerts at the Children’s Culture Center Belgrade, in which groups present themselves with programs no longer than 10 minutes;
SPORTS DAY – interactive fun program for participating children, at attractive locations around the city;
GALA CONCERT – all groups present one act; maximal length of stage performance is 3 minutes, under condition that any kind of vocal or instrumental performance must be studio recorded – full playback is mandatory; the Gala Concert takes place at the Sava Center” and is broadcast live. www.savacentar.com

WHAT KIND OF ACCOMMODATION IS ORGANIZED FOR THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE MANIFESTATION?
Children, group members, are accommodated in families of their peers from Belgrade elementary schools, one child per family – every school hosts one country of Europe. The expenses of hotel accommodation (half-board), for the 3 adult companions, are covered by the organizer of the Manifestation.

WHO COVERS TRAVEL EXPENSES FOR THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE MANIFESTATION?
Travel expenses to/from Belgrade are covered by the participants. In the case of using guest buses during the Manifestation, the organizer covers fuel expenses, as well as accommodation expenses for 2 drivers.

HOW TO APPLY FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE MANIFESTATION “JOY OF EUROPE”?
All detailed information and application forms can be found and downloaded from the official website of the Manifestation www.joyofeurope.rs
Completed application forms (Group information, Information on the Gala Concert act), which are available with a click on the area of your stage performance, are to be sent exclusively in electronic form to an e-mail address: info@dkcb.rs 
A recommendation of an Embassy, Ministry of culture, education, sports etc, can also be sent in electronic form.
It is necessary to submit a video clip of just the stage act planned for the Gala Concert, no longer than 3 minutes. It is recommended that video clips be sent electronically.

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE?
Final deadline for application is May 10th of this year.

WHAT HAPPENS IF SEVERAL GROUPS FROM ONE COUNTRY APPLY?
According to the rules of the Manifestation, every European country can be represented by only one group. The Board of the Manifestation and the jury, competent in various aspects of children’s artistic creativity, will select out of several candidates just one official representative of the applied country. The selection results will be announced three weeks after the application deadline, and the selected groups will receive, electronically, additional application forms (Information on children members of the group, Information on adult companions, and Program planned for the Friendship Meeting Concert).

INTERNATIONAL PAINTING COMPETITION
A separate program entity of the Manifestation is the International Arts competition “Joy of Europe”, with a constant theme - “Friendship Dictionary”.
Every year this competition receives several tens of thousands of works of children from all over the world. These works of children aged 5 to 18 are rewarded with a gold, silver and bronze medal, as well as special achievement certificates, in two categories - individual and collection.
An exhibition of awarded artworks represents a unique commendation of children’s artistic creativity and clearly testifies on the authentic visual culture of childhood.  

WHAT IS FRIENDSHIP DICTIONARY?
On the occasion of the first gathering of the children of Europe, one of the most significant Serbian literary authors Duško Radović composed the “Friendship Dictionary”, having chosen fifteen “most beautiful” words for children: child, Europe, bread, play, book, love, mother, peace, father, song, friend, bird, joy, freedom, and the Sun.
